What Is Intelligence?
There are a variety of definitions of intelligence according to the expert who defines it.  Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines intelligence as the ability to learn or understand or to deal with new or trying situations : reason ; also : the skilled use of reason (2): the ability to apply knowledge to manipulate one's environment or to think abstractly as measured by objective criteria (as tests.

Autistics and Intelligence - The Controversy
Should the intelligence of children with autism be evaluated by the same tests and in the same manner as neurotypical children?  This is a huge question and one that is being bantered about on some blogs and by this parent.  Children with autism are frequently diagnosed with mental retardation based on results from IQ tests that also administered to neurotypical children.  A host of questions arise from use of this indicator as pertains to those with autism.  Should these results be used as a basis for teaching children with autism?  Are they the appropriate measurement instrument?
